ALICE IN HUNGERLAND

Inspired by Lewis Caroll’s Alice in Wonderland. As Alice, a young Asian woman, enters college, she begins to suspect that the world she is living in does not make sense. As she eats and drinks in different ways to appease her parents and grandparents, her size changes drastically. Her newfound friends impose their own lifestyles onto her—though they’re well intentioned, they drive her to the edge of madness. This genre-bending, nonlinear, experimental play dives into the complexities of Asian culture, food disorders, and religion as characters collide with the absurd.

BACKFIRE

3-5 performers, at least 2f, 1m

Naomi writes herself out of pain. Still reeling from a family tragedy that happened eleven years ago, she goes off the grid into the woods to work on her next great novel. When her ex best friend Levi shows up at her doorstep claiming responsibility for her sister’s death, they’re both shaken by their confessions and revelations. A meditation on memory and the role of writing in truth, BACKFIRE is as much about forest burnings as it is about the consequences of our actions in the hazy recollection of youth and in the timeless face of God.
